.
I doubt, there isn't a person who haven't loved atleast once in their entire life. When you love, you'll go to any extent to make your loved ones happy and full. Aamis is some kind of an extreme version of the thirst to fill the void in your lover. Its bizarrely shocking and disturbing. Not all the individuals who like movies will not be able to like this film as it is disturbing and you won't be able to watch it if your heart isn't strong enough. .
I really wonder why these kind of classic and authentic movies doesn't get the recognition it deserves and after watching majority of the best movies in 2019, Aamis deserved the official Oscar entry from India rather than Gully Boy.
.
Love is a feeling that will drive you crazy sometimes and you may go to any extend for your love.
.
I recommend you guys not to watch this movie after checking the synopsis or the storyline. Don't spoil the suspense you're about to witness. If you miss this movie, you're going to miss one of the best cinematic experience of 2019. .
Keep Smiling and Swipe Left.. ❤🤘..
.
Love, Mac.. ❤🙂..

Love at its darkest avatar: Obsessive Cinema Disorder

Quarantine Recommendation 3

Aamis (Assamese) - Rightly as Anurag Kashyap said, Nothing like this has ever come out of India!

Spoilers Ahead!

Remember the scene in Jallikattu where Kuttachan tells his assistant that the tastiest meat in the world is human flesh. What if someone else too had a similar thought? A movie that shows the relationship between a young PHD student and a middle-aged doctor whose husband is always out of town, this one could have easily been in the erotic mood but but the director literally had different ideas.

The plot from just an attraction at the start transforms into a whole different level. when the hero said I am gonna make her eat my flesh after dreaming of her, I thought it was going into that erotic mood but how far they go to feed their desire is so disturbing.

Lima das the lady with bluish eyes is the best part of this movie and her acting and her reactions gave so much depth. Agardeep Baruva also has given a brilliant performance and it's the performance of these two newcomers that gives the movie the much needed high.
And So after Rima Das who bowled me over with Village Rockstars and Bulbul can Sing, Bhaskar Hasarika is the next director whose work I look forward to in Assamese cinema.

Aamis is love at its darkest avatar. It will make you love, it will make you hungry, it will make you lose your appetite, it will make you freeze.

Dark, intriguing, poetic, layered, intense, horrifying and dangerously beautiful Aamis could have given a tough competition to Parasite for best Foreign film if it had been properly marketed and sent to the Oscars instead of Gullyboy.

Streaming now in Moviesaints, watch this at your own risk.

Easily one of the boldest Indian films ever made: Arun Manoj

Some of the more fortunate regional film industries of the world have had at least one breakout movie which put their cinema on the map, by successfully captivating audiences across borders despite linguistic & cultural barriers. What makes the feat even more impressive is when the film in question is an independent production, i.e. one without bigshot distributors or marketing houses to back it up- the 2019 Assamese shocker "Aamis" is a perfect example of this. "Aamis" is one of those cult indies best experienced with minimal prior knowledge of the plot; which is why regardless of how badly I want y'all to check it out, the most I'll reveal is this: though the film starts off as just an intriguing platonic romance between a lady doctor in a neglected marriage & a young Anthropology scholar researching meat eating habits in North East India, from its stomach turning halfway point "Aamis" mutates into a feverishly original nightmare of psychological horror. Easily one of the boldest Indian films ever made, despite my personal opinion that the ending could have been stronger, "Aamis" is an absolute must watch. (8/10)

Unusually splendid: Cinema Appetite

AAMIS (2020,LIMA DAS, ARGHADEEP BARUAH)

As a matter of first important thing I can say about Aamis is, it is unusually splendid. The fundamental champ of the film is likely the topnotch writing. Both the story and the screenplay supplemented each other as they never appeared to be excessively extended or exhausting.

The story revolves around Nirmali, who is a pediatrician and Sumon, who is pursuing his PhD in anthropology. Nirmali is married to Dilip and they have a boy. As the story goes on Nirmali and Sumon fall in love while rejuvinating their love for meat.

Its disturbing , scary and love at its darkest Phase. Flawless Direction, Top Notch Performances By the actors. The BGM was also masterfully used to give those goosebump moments.

Take a look at this movie once for a wonderful experience.Aamis will affect and move you for sure.

Thank you @love_indian_cinema for inspiring me to watch this movie ❤️🌸

The most complete film I've ever watched: Athul Tr

I have never watched something so dark yet so satisfyingly beautiful that the director and the actors brings out a feeling so real in the minds of the audience that the scenes got me chills. It's gracefully raw, pure and dark yet beautifully crafted. It takes you to a new dimension of cinema alltogether and is unexpectedly the most complete film I've ever watched. What else can anyone expect? You need to get etched to your chairs till the last second and that too with eagerness. It's something that was never expected out of Indian cinema and truly stands out of all films that have been released so far this year and a few before.

A revolutionary film in indian cinema: Sayan Chattaraj

Never seen subject in indian cinema , pathbreaking challenging , Great in all aspects..
Its a drama , romantic movie , a doctor and a phd student's love story. after first half the movie moved 180degree and yes in indian cinema , this is my forth best cinematic experience in recent years (After Tumbbad , Jallikkattu , Virus)
Its disturbing , scary and love(soul sacrifice) at its darkest avatar..
Brilliant script , mind blowing direction , nice performances..
An unforgettable experience , this is the india's one of bravest film (Like Bandit Queen , Fire) , this movie changed the total thinking about love and food is main subject here , will nt spoil those who hvnt seen..
Its a revolutionary film in indian cinema , it has potential to submit in cannes film festival or other biggies...
4.2/5(Whatta movie , Brilliant)

Heavy, powerful matter that spins and twirls with wonder: Kartikeyan

Cravings. We want so many things, don’t we. Sit at a corner and then we wish for dreams to come true. And all we need to do is, crave. For more.
Probably why God invented limit .
Nirmali is one beautiful doctor who has a normal family . Meets a PhD holder and finds him , a little too unreal. Probably a spark. He likes eating.
Well that’s it right. Eating , foddie...isn’t that what we all love to do. Go somewhere off the town and look for cuisines. Come back from a trip and reclaim the food. It’s just food being there, telling us what to do.
Mostly meat being the deciding factor here.
And the core factor here.
The first ever in Indian cinema, probably. To showcase a film with a heavy, powerful matter that spins and twirls with wonder.
Presenting you, one of the most thought-provoking films ever in Indian cinema history. 🙌đŸģ I bet most of us, viewers were shocked by the way it went. And how the subject matter here became the shock and crook of the film .đŸ˜ĩ👈 As the flow of these two breathing humans transform a gastronomic adventure into a needle and thread move, the urge to want more deepens the soul to get a taste of the most delicious delicacy ever. 🍴

Let the bowl shine. Let the spoon bend a little to pick that heavy, luscious craving you always wanted. Let the heart say Yes. Ignore the mind.
Nominated in the 2019 TriBeca Film Festival and Mumbai Film Festival , Aamis( Ravening ) - It’s finger licking good. đŸĨ°

Rating : 4.6/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️6️⃣

Never seen such a love story ever told in Indian cinema: Shahin Ahmed

Just mind blowing. The ending is just awesome. The performances the story the music everything is just in sync with the feel of the movie. I have never seen such a love story ever told in Indian cinema. This is such a brave attempt. It will haunt you for days. It will remain in our mind and make you rethink about our traditional mentality towards love. Love can be beautiful but it can make u do unthinkable things. It shows how much depraved of love our society is. Hats off to LIMA DAS and ARGHADEEP BORUAH for there effortless acting. And writer director BHASKAR HAZARIKA For his wonderful direction.

Uncommon story beyond many thinking limits: Chao Hemajit Daudhai Phukon

My Close friends knows that I am big friend of Hollywood Movies & selective films for different reason. I am not a movie critics or hardly I did it... Today, I am going to write about one, due to exceptional....Neither I am a expert about it but watch more than 2500, globally recognize ones..

I enjoyed #AAMIS today in Assam, it's an Assamese drama movie.  For the story & Direction I really appreciate Bhaskar HaZarika and his entire team. Like the uncommon story beyond many thinking limits. Food for research, food for love, food for dependence, Food to Cannibal, Hallucination for food & finally what to say...Watch the film....

For Direction I am giving 4/5, the movie must go to as much as international festival. I am hopeful it will get highest critics.

Original Score,#Quan_Bay I really don't know who you are...But you touch me in many parts, from the beginning, great known songs to starting with... the standard is very high, I really appreciate the music mixed and sound of Opera, director did a fantastic work.
Acting,(Sumon) Arghadeep Barua fantastic natural acting but (Nirmali) Lima Das what an acting, I have hardy seeing such micro level acting in entire Indian film Industry in recent times, this is the 1st time I am watching her acting. Very soon she is going to be a known face... Best wishes for many international awards.

Finally, this film must go to a foreign film category for a wider dimensions, otherwise it will be a big mistake in Indian film Industry.

The honesty with which this movie is being made is truly remarkable: Nandini Sarma

Aamis is a beautiful ,dark ,tragic love story. For the first time in Indian cinema one gets to see such an unusual potrayal of human desire with meat as a metaphor which suprisingly appears familiar yet strange at times .The honesty with which this movie is being made is truly remarkable. The plot is unique and brilliant direction by Bhaskar Hazarika. Superb acting performance by first time actors Lima Das ,Arghadeep and Neetali Das . Had a great time last night watching this wonderful movie and given a chance would love to watch it again.Thank you Team Aamis ,A big thank you to Anurag Kashyap and thank you Movie saints.

Worth the hype it has created: Minhaz Ansari

One could put this movie in Lunchbox meets Silence of the Lambs genre, but it does not do justice to it's ulterior themes. The visual subtleties like that of a 2 second scene of a touch me not plant folding itself when the protagonists pass depicting their complex relationship was a visual treat to watch and the soundtrack only adds more to it. Most of second half of the movie gave me Requiem for a Dream vibes (especially the psychedelic scene) as they both go deep down the rabbit hole of addiction (or craving, hence the title). The movie is filled with even more visual metaphors which is for the viewer to interpret. Last time I saw something this dense was Masaan (hugely recommended). Some might argue about it with a "it gives a bad message" face like they did with Phillips's Joker but IMO the movie did exceptionally well in capturing the human psyche with it's art and art preceds ethics.

I don't usually post about movies in general but Aamis is worth the hype it has created.

An unthinkable story of love: Ronit Dey

Aamis is an absolute brilliance. An amazing movie with an amazing concept. Luckily at a time, when people have started to appreciate such thought provoking movies. An unthinkable story of love between two people and the bond created by their fascination of meat. Sumon and Nirmali as played by Arghadeep Barua and Lima Das is an absolute beauty.
On a personal note, I am a meat person! But to go to that extent in reality, I just can't think of it. Even though I have eaten a lot of different kinds of meat, but I must say I have still not found the meat that has satisfied my taste buds. May be, I have still not had the best meat yet. Definitely, I never will.
That's Aamis for you, friends! Do watch it and watch it with grace. Indian regional cinema is really progressing and that recently, the movies from Assam are really bringing out the true essence of cinema, is heartwarming!

Negative vibes plus mind disturbance: Bhusan Kalyan Pathok

The fact that Aamis is good or bad to watch is not the end. But one has to understand the outcome or the message thrown by the movie. Yes its very true that this type of people is there in the world however to portray an image of love & affection via what we so called as Cannibal is just throwing a negative vibes plus mind disturbance watching it. As direction and story its just a pyschopith movie with fare enough to spend sometime but not spending 500 bucks watching in PvR rather than taking out ur own lappyland. A story of a Cannibal growing love by eating human flesh is nothing great to watch & i am sure whoever will seat & watch @ hall will stand up & exit with a state of very confused mind plus mix feeling of hate and all negativity.

Not beneficial for the society: Dr. Anamika Duarah

Very disappointing story... otherwise acting, editing everything are nice. Request not to produce such kind of movie again which is not beneficial for the society. People outside Assam will be more inspired to comment Assamese as Jungli ( which is a common wrong beleif about us)after watching this movie.

A scintillating examination of female desire and appetite: Usha Iyer

I was invited yesterday to introduce the Assamese film, Aamis (Ravening) at the 3rd I South Asian film festival in San Francisco. Since I hadn’t watched the film yet (but was very excited for what promised to be in store), I made the usual connection between meat-eating and Hindutva intolerance, hoping the film would go beyond a sociological critique, however. And oh, how it did! All the trailers and reviews had promised horror, so of course, one expected cannibalism, the ultimate gastronomic taboo. But the film went beyond all those expectations into a scintillating examination of female desire and appetite, of the mixing of sensory pleasures – the gastronomic and the sexual, of locating pleasure in other body parts than the usual places, of dreamy (Persona-like but in a different register) sequences of the man’s hands touching the insides of the woman’s stomach, of him luxuriating inside her stomach, her face. The body turns into an extended membrane of pleasure. As a pediatrician, Nirmali is often seen rubbing the stomachs of her patients. The belly becomes activated as a fleshy space of erotic, gustatory delectation.

And so does the mouth. As baideo (older sister)/Nirmali eats rabbit meat, catfish with colocasia, bat meat, and then scrambled bits of Sumon’s thigh, devilled egg style, all exquisitely with a fork, her soft, delicate mouth folds in pleasure; you can see the meat glide down her throat, and warm her belly. We’re invited to delight with her in the voluptuous movement of the meat inside her body as much as we take pleasure in her elegant outside, draped in beautiful mekhla chadors with small embroidered motifs, delicate earrings, a gold chain upon her soft neck. Surfaces fold upon each other, seductive outside but more radically, in the inside of organs. The body becomes an engine for oral, abdominal, tactile pleasures, which no amount of mouthwash can erase the taste of. When the abject is folded back into the realm of the senses, something fundamentally shifts in our conception of the body. Boundaries between inside and outside dissolve. The carefully-built edifice of borders – between meat and skin, our insides and outsides, our bodies and others’, objects and the skin and meat that they pierce, classed bodies of a doctor, a small-town student, a working-class rickshaw-puller – is slowly picked at. It’s not the brutal collapse of shocking body horror (which the reviews had primed me to expect) but a delicate disemboweling, a tender picking apart of these boundaries.

Some reviews found the “moralizing” towards the end disappointing. But I didn’t see any moralizing at all, only a critique of it. The state, of course, rears its sanctimonious head when Sumon is busy carving up a rickshaw-wala’s body, arresting him and later Nirmali (who has spent the night in ravenous anticipation). News channels quickly sensationalize the case as being about two lovers with a disgusting, horrifying secret. Nirmali’s son, Piku watches the news with their maid, and Nirmali’s friend, Jumi. Her husband, Dilip, is seen (not heard, mercifully!) screaming on the phone. We can imagine his obtuse, self-righteous shock. Dilip, also a doctor, works for rural health, with clear ideas about disease and its eradication. The poor and their diseases must be kept at the proper distance for the abject, like the leeches he recounts peeling off his legs. His friends call his work award-worthy. We, on Nirmali’s side, see his dense denial of pleasures, notice his disinterest in Sumon’s long list of non-traditional meats, which has her tingling with craving. If one were to get under Nirmali’s skin, as it were, Dilip’s thick, stocky body begins to feel perfect for her growing appetite (at one point, I wondered if she’d consider her son a fit comestible!). But does she hunger for any human meat or for Sumon’s, the body she cannot have conventional sex with because she’s married? The film overturns taboos with tremendous subversive force – since extra-marital sex is deemed immoral, characters explore other corporeal delights. And they take us to very different, much more interesting explorations of senses and affects. Unlike the reviews I read, I didn’t think Jumi is punished for her affair with a younger man (that she describes as hard and soft in the right places). Rather, she finally is pregnant with a child she’s longed for. Her belly fills with her desire just as Nirmali’s has with hers. Sumon and Nirmali finally let their fingers touch when they’re paraded before the hungry journalists by the police. It’s a profoundly erotic moment (and I wish they’d let it linger there rather than clasp their hands as some sort of joint force against society). Even as their faces are covered, criminal style, one imagines their mouths curling with voluptuous arousal.

(Sent in an email note to the director)

This film first watches you and then consumes you: Srijit Mukherji

In a daze after watching #Aamis. Mind-numbing, heart-wrenching, spine-chilling. It takes you to a psychological space where cinema, in any language, seldom takes you. Nothing like this has come out from Indian cinema in a long time. There are films that you watch and consume, this film first watches you and then consumes you, sinew by sinew, tissue by tissue, fibre by fibre. With its metaphors, its simplicity, its incision with a surgeon-like precision. If the taste or flavour of a film can be likened to meat, this film would be as impossible to achieve as probably unicorn steak. But Bhaskar HaZarika conjures it up easily with moments which make you wince and pine, squeal and love at the same time. And delivers a film, both rare and very well-done.
I could go on. But for now, catch possibly the second last or last show in Kolkata at 5 35 pm at Lake Mall Cinepolis tomorrow or day after.
